Lunar Eclipse 2008

On the evening of February 20th 2008 I observed the total lunar eclipse on a beach just North of Hampton Beach NH with a group of hardy friends.

Thanks to Norma for the invitation!

The moon light was beautiful reflecting off the water!

Here the moon is just entering the earth's shadow or penumbra (8:17 PM).

Slowly, the moon moved into deep shadow or umbra...(8:46, 8:58 & 9:19 PM)

The moon was very close to Saturn, shown here as the bright spot to the left of the moon (9:44 PM).

The fire was great because it was COLD!

My feet were not getting much from the fire, though, and I decided to head home. This was the view in my back yard as the moon emerged from shadow (11:08 PM).
