Antares is covered by the (nearly) full moon
On Saturday night we got to see a minor but still exciting celestial event. The moon was almost full and covered (occulted) the red giant star Antares. I used my new camera (the Canon T1i) and my 100-400 lens as well as my telescope (an Orion 80mm ED) and camcorder. The view through the telescope was beautiful - it was partly cloudy and the fast-moving clouds passing in front of the moon were spectacular. It's hard to capture this kind of very high contrast image, however. Here are some of my tries:

Taken with the 100-400 at 400mm

Taken with the T1i through the telescope.

A still from the camcorder taken through the eyepiece.

A closeup of the second image.
